Complete Destruction: Today's Afternoon Game

| | Comments (12)
black_bear_cub2.jpg2:20, Phillies at Cubs: "Dude. How awesome is it to be out of Oakland? High five." That is me imitating Rich Harden and Country Joe Blanton as they meet before today's game. The former teammates are opposing starters today. The Cubs kept on rolling, beating the Phils 6-4 last night. 100 wins for the Cubs becomes a more likely proposition each day, and with a 6.5 game lead in the Central, we could be talking magic number before you know it. No I'm not trying jinx the Cubs. I only try to jinx the Cardinals.

Phils up 1-0 on a Pat Burrell RBI snigle.

Wouldn't it be rad if William Carlos Williams's full name were William Carlo Carlos Williams?

No mention of the Phillies picking up Matt Stairs? THAT SHIT MOVES THE NEEDLE

Matt Stairs has a lower slugging percentage than Derek Jeter. There's your mention.

That was meant as a jibe at both players, BTW.

I'm glad to see him go. I don't give a shit what province he's from. Let the Travis Snider era beging.

Isn't he from New Brunswick? I still have a Matt Stairs: Bulldog poster from when he started using steroids and hit 39 HR. He and John Jaha were awesome.

He is from New Brunswick, and he coaches hockey in Maine in the offseason (as we informed ad nauseum during Jay games). The fuck do I care though? Travis Snider!! He's like Billy Butler, only whiter!

@Rob - no worries. I think we all know you mix your homerism with a healthy journalist/bloggerist detachment.

Lloyd would appreciate the play just made by Country Joe... a kick save, and a beauty... a kick save... andabeauty.

Cubs are hitless thru 3. I'm witless thru 5 (beers).
