The 2010 Walkoff Walk Field Trip: PNC Heist, Pittsburgh PA

Hey kids, think warm. Only a couple weeks until Spring Training means only a couple months until the premiere party in all of baby costumed baseball blogging. Last year's Heist in Philly was such a success we decided to keep it in the great Keystone State and to yet another park named after a bank. For years I've heard great things about the Pirates' home park and I figure if I'm ever going to see it, I better have better reasons than just going to see that team.

Also, I wanted to go to Toronto but assumed a good portion of our readership isn't allowed to leave the country.

The final piece of the party puzzle is picking a date. Like last year there a few good options and we're interested in your feedback. Either email us or just drop a comment on which of the weekend dates you'd be most likely to attend. They're all Saturday night games:

  • July 3 vs. Philadelphia: Fourth of July fireworks at the game. Roy Halladay. A three-day holiday weekend sweetens the pot.

  • August 7 vs. Colorado: Um... Todd Helton? He's consistent. Come on, like any of you actually remember the game last year anyway. Oh, it ended on a walkoff? How come no one tried to resuscitate me?

  • August 21 vs. NYM: We could make fun of the Mets IN PERSON.

Drop us a line. Let us know. See you soon.

Fact: Wonder Boys is an amazing movie.

Fact: I will move heaven and Earth to be there this year.

Falsehood: The Mets will be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs on August 21st.

I can't wait to get my hands on some Monongahela prawns. I vote July 3rd so that I can pretend we're in the midst of the late-70s Phillies-Pirates rivalry. The long weekend helps, too.

I'll have to miss it if it's the 3rd (I'll actually be in philly for a wedding)

But the other 2 dates I'll be there. Especially if it's an against the METS

I vote for August 7th.

I vote for either date in August.

I think I'd rather laugh at the Mets in August than travel to Pittsburgh on 4th of July weekend to see the Phils.

Eh, who am I kidding, I'm in no matter what.

The best date for me is probably August 7th, though any of 'em should work.

I went to PNC last year and it's just as incredible as you've heard. They had Yuengling on tap and everything...

I don't want to tip the scales too far in any one direction, but GEORGE THOROGOOD AND THE DESTROYERS ARE PLAYING AFTER THE GAME ON AUGUST 7TH!!!!!

Each game would be good, including Colorado. You got Tulo and YOU BALDO!.

Also, we'll need to bookmark this.

Either date in August is good but I'd really like to see them play the Mets.

You guys are going to love PNC Park. Great sight lines, Iron City pounders, beautiful view of dahntahn Picksburgh. Too bad about the product on the field.

And I don't want to oversell it or anything, but The Triple Deuce (within stumpling distance of PNC Park) is the greatest dive bar I have ever been to in my life.

How far is Pittsburgh from THE JERSEY SHORE?

Can someone invite Jwoww? I'll bring the ham and water

in in in for any dates!

@The Colonel: NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

@matt_T: It's a six-hour drive. I've done it a number of times.

Free hats for all in attendance on Aug. 21. Never underestimate the power of a free hat.

HEIST DEUX!!!

This is the best news of the day, week, and probably month.

I'd like to throw my considerable heft behind an August date more so than the July date. The presence of George Thorogood is quite possibly a deal sealer for 8/7 though.

IRON CITY POUNDERS?! Sold. And if the Triple Deuce is anything like the Double Deuce in Road House, it's going to be a very Swayze night.

I'm changing my vote to either August date so I can be on the winning side. Also, I forgot that I take most of August off. I was voting against my self-interest.

If it's the game vs. the Mets, I'm there! (I can't over July 4th weekend, and Aug. 7th is my BFF's wedding, and I'll be in Philly for that. And so will the Mets. It's like my BFF knows me or something.)

It's going to take some doing, but I remain hopeful re attending. The good thing about either August date is we would have the place to ourselves.

Can't make any dates, someone wear an extra lobster baby pin for me.

I can only make the 21st
First round of irons on me to tip the voting scales

If there's anything remaining of me after the bar exam, I can make any of those dates.

July 3: Yes
Aug 7: Maybe
Aug 21: Nope

All of us coming from South Jersey / Philly Burbs should rent a winnebago and roll through Western PA in style. SHOTGUN

I know my vote doesn't count for a whole person under slavery statutes (3/5 rule!), but my preference is for the 7th.

OHIO RIVER VALLEY BIAS

Question: who has two thumbs, roughly 40% of a functioning liver remaining, and is down for any of the dates? This guy! Call Promanti's and tell that crazy hillbilly woman who runs it to start cutting extra fries, the heist is on!

YEAH BITCHES

Primanti's is overrated. The O is where it's at.

YEAH I SAID IT.

If I wanted a shitty, oniony sandwich with meat of questionable origin and soggy-assed fries on it, I'd have gone to Rutgers.

What's The O, Clare?

Hey Elaine, Clare and I are going for a dirty O...

Pieces of me would be washing up in all five boroughs.

where the sight of all that tube steak lined up on the grill like soldiers gets you a little excited
and a large fry is a fryer basket of fries dumped on a cafeteria tray...
